Ronnie and I had just turned 18, and were fascinated with getting high on pot and alcohol. One day he said he had a surprise for me, so we got off the school bus and cut into the forest. After walking awhile we found a secluded spot, railroad ties encircling a fire pit. He unpacked his backpack and showed me a water pipe he had made, and took out a bottle of wine.
